International Exlibris Congress 2020

The Bookplate Society invites participants to the 38th FISAE congress from

Wednesday, 12 August 2020 (arrival from 10am) to
Sunday, 16 August 2020 (depart after breakfast)

Cambridge is such a popular location for conferences that, four years ahead, these were the only dates available for us to reserve for the August 2020 congress. We also expect this to be an especially popular congress. This is why we must get everything organised very far in advance, and why you need to register much earlier than is usual for a FISAE congress.

We intend to offer a busy and enjoyable programme that includes:

• illustrated talks of wide interest
• an exhibition of contemporary international exlibris (based on a competition)
• an exhibition of the bookplates of famous British people
(there will be an accompanying book issued to all participants)
• a shop run by several exlibris dealers. You will be able to deposit material for sale
(or return to you at the end of the congress).
• an auction of high quality exlibris items. Thomas Plant has kindly agreed to be our
   celebrity auctioneer.
• exchange room(s) with permanent opportunity for meeting other participants
• tours of Cambridge colleges, libraries, museums
• visits to historic places/houses outside Cambridge (eg Burghley House & Audley End)
• visits in small groups to the Kindersley-Cardozo letter-cutting workshop
• delegates' meeting, with the theme '2020 vision' for the running of FISAE
• formal evening dinner in St John's College hall
• perhaps an artists' workshop and other activities.

Fuller details of the plannned programme will appear here once we have these worked out. Intending participants are very welcome to suggest ideas and requests for what is included (and also about what you hope will not be included eg bagpipes and folk dancing!). Note that because this is a 4-day congress it will be possible for the really keen exlibris exchangers to arrive one day early on Tuesday, 11 August 2020.
